Today is World Environment Day! It is celebrated every year on 5 June. I encourage all of us to play a part and pledge our efforts in saving our earth for our future generations and for a better tomorrow.
Let us make the world a better place to live in by making some changes to the little things we do at home everyday, starting from today!
Here are 5 simple things you can do at home to save the environment.
1) Water is precious
Reuse the water you use from rinsing fruits, vegetables or rice by watering the plants. Water generated from washing machine can also be collected using a pail and used to flush or clean the toilet.
I used a pail to collect the water from the shower or bath of my children to flush the toilet.
2) Invest in recycle bags
Aim to use and bring recycle bags along for your weekly grocery trip. You can also use them when shopping for books, clothing etc. They hold more and are easier to carry than plastic bags.
3) Save energy
You can save electricity by turning off appliances and electrical devices completely when they are not in use such as television, laptop and lights.
4) Reuse and Recycle
Pledge your efforts in making a difference by reducing, reusing and recycling your trash such as cans, plastic bottles or newspapers and magazines. If you have unwanted clothes or shoes in good condition, you can donate them to charity or you can sell them at Carousell.
5) Reduce greenhouse effect
Walk or ride your bicycle to work, school and anywhere you can. This will reduce greenhouse gases and at the same time help us in burning some calories while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
A small contribution goes a long way!
